Our Ms. Senior World ® Patricia Modlin
Hello, I am Patricia Rose Modlin, granted the privilege of being MS Senior World, 2024. I have enjoyed a healthy, pleasurable life, have realized most of my dreams and, because I have the family history of long life, may have many more years to promote my goals in life.
A brief history of myself shows that I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, with life goals established at a very young age. My mother was a Registered Nurse, and my wonderful aunt was also a nurse, so it seems natural that my main goal was also to become a nurse. My other predominate goal was to have babies. The middle child, with two brothers, gave me the hero I needed to guide me as I grew up, and the joy of caring for a younger child.
My goal of becoming a nurse continued as I grew up, though delayed a bit because I got married at the young age of 18, and had two beautiful children. At age 23, I decided to go to college to get my Registered Nurse Degree, after which I had my third child. I was fortunate to get into a special program which allowed me to get my Bachelors Degree. I was privileged to continue my nursing career for many years, retiring in December, 2017.
Nursing has given me not only the privilege of caring for other people, helping to guide them through their illnesses and recovery, but also the benefit of getting to know people of all faiths, lifestyles, and cultures. Coming from a multinational background myself, I feel a closeness with others that has helped make me who I am. I have a grandfather who came to Canada with the Hudson Bay Trappers, a grandmother who came from Sweden, grandfather from Norway, some history of both Canadian and American Native Indian. I have always felt that we are all somehow interrelated.
The past year has gone by quickly, but has given me the pleasure of enjoying my role as
MS Senior World, reaching out to, hopefully, make others lives more enjoyable, eased
their pain and offered an opportunity to encourage them to set their own goals, follow their dreams and to know they are special, whatever road they are following.
